Start and Manage a Subscription
Subscriptions apply to a team. Open “Subscription” from the workbench sidebar, or use the entry in the account menu at the top right.
Who can start one
Only the team owner can start and manage a subscription.
Other members can open the page to check the current status, but starting a subscription reports “Only the team owner can start a subscription,” and attempting to manage one asks them to contact the team owner.
If the team does not have online payment enabled yet, the page asks you to contact an administrator.
1. First checkout
- Choose a billing cycle. Monthly and annual are both offered.
- Select the action on a plan card. A confirmation dialog appears first so you can check the plan and cycle.
- After you confirm, the browser goes to a Stripe-hosted payment page where you enter your payment details.
Once payment completes, return to the subscription page and the status updates to active.
2. Changing plans once subscribed
Once a subscription is active, upgrades, downgrades, cycle changes, and cancellation all happen in the Stripe subscription management page. Do not check out again from the plan list.
While a subscription is active, selecting another plan (including the free one) does not start a new payment flow. It takes you to the Stripe subscription management page instead, and Stripe settles the difference on a prorated basis.
This prevents a second checkout from creating a duplicate subscription on the Stripe side and double-charging you.
3. When payment did not complete
If the payment is interrupted, the subscription stops at the “payment incomplete” state and the page shows a notice. There are two ways forward:
- Select “Check Payment Status” to have the system reconcile the result with Stripe. If payment did in fact succeed, the status updates to active.
- Simply select a plan again. The system reconciles once first — an already-paid subscription is activated directly, and only a genuinely unpaid one proceeds to a new checkout.
If the payment link has expired, select a plan again to start over.
Status reference
The subscription page reports the current status: active, trialing, past due, payment incomplete, payment expired, unpaid, paused, or canceled. A subscription that is canceled but still inside its billing period also shows the date it lapses.
“Unpaid” and “paused” require opening the Stripe subscription management page to update the payment method or review how to resume.
